Monday, Monday (ba-da, ba-da-da-da)

Some readers will recognize the title of this post as the beginning of a number-one hit song recorded in 1966 by The Mamas & The Papas:

When Monday rolls around, do you find yourself – as the song puts it – “cryin’ all of the time,” perhaps at the thought of going back to work? Do you struggle with the connection between what you believe, or want to believe, on Sunday and what you’re expected to do after the alarm clock goes off the next morning?

At St. Stephen’s Church in Edina, Minnesota, where I serve as the Rector, and hopefully in your own place of worship, there’s something in front of the congregation each week – right out on the table – that can help to make that connection between your faith and your work. It’s something described at the end of an interesting essay entitled “Why Work Is Holy” by Dave Williamson, who used to serve on the staff of Edina’s Colonial Church. Please take a moment to consider his thoughts on the sacredness of your everyday activities.
