The Glory That Shall Be Revealed

View of St. Stephen's from Minnehaha Creek/Photograph by Juli Wunder Simmons

When the funeral for my father took place two years ago on Good Friday, the contrast between the weather in North Carolina and in Minnesota was a bit extreme. Everything was in bloom in the Old North State, while St. Stephen’s Church in Edina looked exactly like the photograph to the right, which was taken on the same day. It was a kind of metaphor for my own experience at the time – remembering the death of Jesus and of one of his sheep, while also receiving a glimpse of the glory that shall be revealed. Those who were here in the “Deep North” will remember a beautiful snowfall that year on Easter Day!

I’ve used a section of this photograph as the customized header for this blog since it began. But I’m now watching the transition from winter to spring from my office perch above the gently flowing waters of Minnehaha Creek. As I look through these windows, there’s nary a snowflake to be seen on the ground. Maybe it’s time to find a new picture for a new season in this wonderful part of God’s creation.
