Who are the Martyrs? We are a group of men who enjoy gathering once a week for an hour or so of theology and a pint or so of beer. We meet on most Wednesdays throughout the year, beginning at 7:00 p.m., in the Men’s Card Room on the lower level of the Edina Country Club at 5100 Wooddale Avenue in Edina, Minnesota. You can find the Men’s Card Room by going through the downstairs pub. Ask the bartender if you’re not sure which door to use.
Actually, while you’re speaking to the bartender, you might want to go ahead and order a beer or some alternative beverage. You can even grab a bite to eat. You don’t have to be a member of the country club to enjoy any of that while joining the Martyrs for thoughtful conversations about faith, work, and daily life. Just pay in cash at the bar and you’re good to go.
The Rector of St. Stephen’s Church (on the other side of both Minnehaha Creek and Wooddale Avenue from the Edina Country Club) selects the topic of these conversations only for the first Wednesday of the month and posts information about it on this blog under the title “Martyrs Topic . . .” On the following weeks, others present the theme of the evening. So join us and invite a friend to come with you as we think about and wrestle with everything from business ethics to personal integrity.
